UGA announced 20 new Foundation Fellows and seven new Ramsey Scholars today, the highest academic scholarships and grants the university awards. While the combined lists reflect a healthy geographic variety, with Georgia's finest high school scholars well-represented, both are also predominately Franklin College majors, which is precisely as it should be at a top-tier major research university.
The great diversity of disciplines in the Franklin College anchors UGA in many ways, including the ability to populate its professional schools and pre-professional majors with the best students in America. Great programs in chemistry, genetics, ocean science, music, biology, Romance languages, biochemistry, English and more are designed by distinguished faculty to attract and serve the most talented students. This reciprocity steers leading universities to the top, trains tomorrows leaders in analytical knowledge and critical thinking skills. Glancing through the extraordinary academic credentials and majors of these fine young students, it becomes evident how they have decided to connect to and purse these opportunities at UGA.
Congratulations to the Class of 2024 Ramsey Scholars and Foundation Fellows, to our colleagues in the Honors program, and to the many faculty across the university who make this great, ongoing achievement a reality.
