Deep Learning Dendrochronologist

As part of the cluster hire, the Department of Anthropology invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor in “Deep Learning” Paleoclimatology and Dendrochronology. The position starts on August 1, 2022 and is an academic year appointment (9 months) with an opportunity to supplement salary during the summer.

 

Applicants must have a Ph.D. degree in Anthropology or a related discipline from an accredited institution and have completed all the requirements for the degree by May 1, 2022. For this position, we especially seek applicants specializing in tree-ring analysis in archaeology and the use of deep learning methods to reconstruct past climate signals and variations, optimization of chronological coverage along geographical and temporal dimensions, and integration of tree-ring derived information with other science-based dating techniques and proxy information. The successful applicant will be expected to have or establish and sustain a strong independent research program with external funding that will be recognized nationally and internationally, foster partnerships within and outside the University of Georgia, exhibit a strong commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate and graduate levels, engage in supervision and mentoring of students, and contribute to service in the department, the university, and the profession.
