LCUGA4 is an annual linguistics conference with a strong interdisciplinary focus. The theme this year is "Crossing Boundaries," presentations from students and faculty from UGA, as well as around the U.S. and abroad, that bridge the gap between linguistics and other fields will be presented. Admission to conference talks and plenary events is free for all UGA affiliates. In addition to more than 30 talks over the course of the conference weekend by student and faculty presenters from UGA, around the U.S., and abroad, the event also will feature three plenary speakers:
Walt Wolfram, William C. Friday Distinguished Professor at North Carolina State University, will screen his recent film Talking Black in America (https://www.talkingblackinamerica.org/) and participate in a Q&A which will be open to the public.
Susan Tamasi, Director of Emory University's Program in Linguistics, is a specialist in sociolinguistics and health communication. Her recent research investigates how language variation affects patient-medical professional interaction.
Amanda Dalola, of the University of South Carolina, researches cross-linguistic understanding with a focus on French, and analyzes Twitter usage in her work.
Admission to all talks and plenary events is free for UGA affiliates. We hope you'll join us in continuing to strengthen the interdiscplinary research community here at UGA! More information is available on our website: www.lsuga.com/conference/2017.
