Changing Names of Academic Units
Since changes in the names of departments, schools, colleges, centers, or institutes may have major impacts on the curriculum of the University as presented in University publications, they must undergo the same review as other curriculum changes. Changes should be undertaken only after thorough study and evaluation within the originating unit.
Any change in name must first be approved by the originating unit and the appropriate academic dean or director. It is the responsibility of the originating unit and academic dean or director to assure that proposed names are appropriate for the discipline.
NOTE: No students can remain in the old program name once the new program name is approved, and all student records will be updated to the new name. This record change can update the student's Bulletin term in DegreeWorks.

Complete a Curriculum Request Form.

When you click on the link above, the form will open in a browser. You will need to save the form and open in Adobe Acrobat. This will allow you to complete the fillable form and add your signature.

Changing Name of Academic Unit proposals will need to be reviewed and approved by the Faculty Senate. A representative from your department will need to be present at this meeting to discuss the proposal as well as answer any questions or concerns that might arise.

Once your request has been approved by both the Franklin College Curriculum Committee and the Faculty Senate, the request will be emailed to the Office of Curriculum Systems and to the Department Head.
